Take my place

Painting of a girl standing among tall grass in the style of Monet .
Poem by

Nina  Katungi

5 Dec 2022

I hear you
Scratching at the window
So desperate to come in

It's that time of year
Follow the fire
Find the shelter
For winter is coming

I don’t even know what day it is
Let alone season
All I know is that I’m trying to get out
Out of this house

Take this home
Stay as long as you want
It is yours

I will run free
Bathe under the moonlight
Dance with the toetoes
Awaken to the tui’s morning song
