Let it flow

Brigitta Kiss

Feminism

I sit wearing period panties
Bleed freely into them
Nothing stuffed inside me
Blocking
The natural flow
Of nature in
And out of me
I should have sat naked on the earth
Let it flow into Mother Nature herself
This is how it used to be when we were
Priestesses
Offering golden cups

This blood represented
Future
The world yet to come
This blood was sacred
Giver of life
This blood was powerful
Worth harnessing
This blood was a tool
Our ancestors learned to use

Abandoned and hidden
Fear seeped in
It always does
Without knowing
A new world born
This world
A brighter world
Of lies and secrets
Walls
Barbed wire
Built around
Protection
Distrust
Human nature
As Adam bit into the apple
And blamed it on Eve

Hide the blood
Shed
The blood
It’s shameful, weak.
It’s dirty
A bloody
Pain
It is
Plug the blood
With a tampon
When it arrives
Alongside my mouth
Keep it shut
Rivers
Turn to lakes
Dams
Break

It’s trickling
Puddles
Of blood
Toxic
Impurities

Filter the blood
Filter the blood
Filter the blood
Till it isn’t blood anymore
Then
Let it flow
